About Family

As a researcher and teacher, I find it's often useful to define terms. So, when I talk about FAMILY, I mean those people that you consider to be your family. They may be best friends, people you live with, people 3000 miles away, and/or blood relatives. YOU know whom you consider to be in your family.

And having a successful family is not a one-size-fits-all approach. There is more than one way to have a great family. That's one reason I believe this blog is so important. We'll talk about many skills, theories, and research findings that can help us to have the best family we can ~ even if all our families look and act different from each other.

Researchers know that successful families have two things in common: they are made up of relationships that take effort and they work at maintaining good communication. This blog will focus on these two common elements of successful families. Knowing this information is important to you for many reasons, including the two I think are MOST important. First, having a successful family is satisfying in itself. Second, research shows that people happy with their family life are better and more successful at work. Those are two great reasons to check back each week to see what's new at Your Successful Family.
